Major David Blake -
19 February marks the Anniversary of the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese during World War 2. The General Officer Commanding the Darwin forces at the time was Major David Blake - an Old Boy of Parramatta Marist. He is pictured below in WW1 as a founding officer of the Australian Flying Corps. Another piece of militaria trivia concerning Blake was that during WW1 he was the flying officer responsible for burying his German counterpart, the 'Red' Baron Manfred von Richthofen, who is now thought to have been shot down by Australian ground troops.
